NPR's 'Morning Edition' Examines Pennsylvania U.S. Senate Race

NPR's "Morning Edition" on Wednesday examined the Pennsylvania U.S. Senate race between incumbent Sen. Rick Santorum (R-Pa.) and Democratic candidate Robert Casey. Santorum has "been outspoken, some say to a fault," in expressing his views on "hot-button cultural" issues, including abortion rights and the use of contraception, and Casey thinks Roe v. Wade -- the 1973 Supreme Court decision that effectively barred states from banning abortion -- was wrongly decided and said he would have voted for the confirmation of Justice Samuel Alito to the Supreme Court, a position "at odds" with most Senate Democrats, NPR reports. The NPR segment includes comments from Casey; Kathleen Gerber, vice president of the Philadelphia Young Democrats; Terry Madonna, professor of public affairs and director of the Keystone Poll; and Santorum (Liasson, "Morning Edition," NPR, 2/22).

The complete segment is available online in RealPlayer.
